DHL-Sinotrans opens Putian Branch

With best-in-class express services, new facility aims to further boost local trade

DHL-Sinotrans, the leading express company in China, today announced the opening of a branch in the city of Putian, Fujian Province. The new branch will better meet the demands for best-in-class express services in Putian and the neighboring regions. The branch will expand the network coverage of DHL-Sinotrans in Southeast Fujian.

With rapid economic growth, Southeast Fujian is emerging as another important economic center in China, following areas such as the Bohai Rim Circle, the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta regions. Putian is one of the most important business hubs for foreign trade in Southeast Fujian. In recent years, the city has seen remarkable growth in export volumes with sustained support from the local government. According to statistics from China Customs, Putian has achieved a total import and export value of more than US$1.13 billion in the first eight months of 2006, and exports have contributed more than US$840 million with a year-on-year increase of 11.82 percent.

Wu Dongming, Managing Director of DHL-Sinotrans, noted: “The booming economy in Southeast Fujian has stimulated the demand for top-quality express services. Before the opening of the new Putian Branch, DHL-Sinotrans already had a strong presence in Fujian with four branches in Fuzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou and Zhangzhou, and the establishment of the new branch has reaffirmed the importance of Southeast Fujian. With our extensive network and best-in-class professional express services, DHL-Sinotrans will continue to provide the most efficient support to boost the international competitiveness of companies in Putian and the neighboring regions.”
Currently, DHL-Sinotrans’ service network covers 318 cities and 95 percent of China’s major population and business centers. Under its First in China strategy announced in April 2006, DHL-Sinotrans will open 16 new branches, up from its current 56 branches, in China this year. Putian Branch, one of the new facilities, reaffirms DHL’s long-term commitment to China, and further boosts its role as a trade facilitator by providing even more efficient support for the economic development among the different regions.
