Corporate Responsibility at DHL

Corporate Responsibility is a core element of our corporate strategy. Acting responsibly as a company means we treat our employees, the environment, the interests of society and the capital that has been entrusted to us in a manner that is respectful and sustainable. Only in this way can we be successful in the long term.

Disaster Management

During the SARS outbreak of May 2003, DHL-Sinotrans launched the “Love Express” Service in Shanghai, providing free express service for medical teams from the Second Military Medical University to designated hospitals for SARS cases in Beijing Xiao Tangshan. They also donated camera mobile phones to the university’s 63 medical personnel.

During the tsunami in 2005, DHL provided global aid to the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. DHL Asia Pacific provided assistance in relief activities through flight charters to the five tsunami-affected countries in Southeast Asia.

In January 2005, DHL initiated a fundraising campaign through its global network for relief efforts following the tsunami in Southeast Asia.

In 2005, DHL-Sinotrans assisted in delivering 200 emergency packs to flood-ravaged areas in Jinxiu Coutnty, Laibin City, Guangxi Province, under the support of World Vision Initiative.

In November 2005, DHL-Sinotrans and its employees had initiated a staff donation drive, eventually raising RMB 200,000 for the reconstruction of a school in Jiangxi province which had suffered severe damage from an earthquake.

In summer of 2006, DHL-Sinotrans delivered 325 emergency kits and packages for children to flood-ravaged areas in Hunan Province within 24 hours of the disaster’s occurrence.

Since the earthquake hit Sichuan on May 12, all of the DHL-Sinotrans colleagues expressed concern on suffered people and our brothers and sisters in Southwest Cluster especially Chengdu branch. While keeping a close eye on the progress of the earthquake rescue, DHL’s three business units in China donated more than RMB 2 million to support the disaster relief in the worst hit area. DHL also shipped over 2000 containers of relief supplies to the hit areas for free.

In May 2004, DHL supported the “Soccer in a Box” project under World Vision Initiative (an international non- profit charitable organization), featuring the joint participation of Bayer, Sports Beijing, and some individual volunteers. Together, the team subsidized, purchased, and delivered 161 boxes of football items to Yunnan, Guangxi, Guizhou, and other remote areas.
